The centre of Ballarat will be transformed by a dynamic arts precinct The CBD Village.
With over 12 different spaces activated for indoor and outdoor projects, the CBD Village will embrace both alternative spaces, such as Police Lane, Sturt Street Gardens and Camp St Facades, and a more tradition style of viewing in venues such as the Art Gallery of Ballarat, Civic Hall and the Mining Exchange.
An representative from each state and territory has been asked to create a major work, each 8 meters in length, depicting The Great Australian Landscape. Each artist will portray their own interpretation of our vast country.
Art Gallery of Ballarat
This important regional gallery will house 9 major solo exhibitions.
Mining Exchange will be the home of Hit Me With Your Best Shot. This exhibition is aimed at capturing what is happening in Australian art today. Every artist, including professional, hobbyists and students in Australia will be encouraged to send one image of an artwork to be exhibited both digitally and as and as an installation. People make art for a variety of reasons, some to exhibit, some to become famous, others just create for the sake of creating. This project will reflect creative intentions of Australia.
Mining Exchange will also host BOAA's Opening Party, as well as various workshops and community engagement projects.
Sturt Street Gardens
The gardens will be activated by a number of outdoor projects.
Located alongside The Art Gallery of Ballarat, this laneway will host an ariel project.
Alfred Deakin Place
A major outdoor project will link together Camp Street projects to The Art Gallery of Ballarat.
Camp Street will bring together numerous spaces. Projections will be splashed across facades for dynamic night time events involving music and performance art, and Ballarat's ContainART will showcase collaborations between local artists and refugees.
This historic building hosted our Artist Announcement exhibition in September 2017. For 2018, it will be transformed again for a major solo exhibition.
The Lost Ones Gallery
Housed in a 1870s Masonic building, this contemporary art gallery will be the home of a major solo exhibition.
This Federation University site will host solo exhibitions of varying sizes.
Post Office Gallery
Another Federation University site, the Post Office Gallery is a permanent fixture of Ballarat. We will be opening up all the nooks and crannies, back rooms and hidden areas to bring 19 solo exhibitions to this wonderful building.
Back Space Gallery
Hidden behind The Art Gallery of Ballarat is Back Space, a beautiful space that opens up onto Alfred Deakin Place. This will be the home of a solo exhibition.
Unicorn Lane Gallery
Coming off Sturt Street, a solo exhibition will be situated at Unicorn Lane Gallery.
