Ben Morieson - VIC
Ben Morieson has completed his Masters of Art in Public Space at RMIT University. His art practice to date has had an emphasis in Public Art situations. Much of Morieson’s work is absurdist and often challenges the audience to clarify their own perceptions within an
ambiguous context. The work takes many different forms ranging from organic, or the purely sculptural to that of performance or action, video and photographic. In all cases theform follows the idea. Most projects involve collaboration of some kind and recently involved communities in Moe, Morwell and Traralgon. The Get Sunflowered project was conceieved in partnership with RMIT and its Urban Renewal program in Gippsland regional towns. Its origin was the Fieldwork project in Kensington, created as part of the Masters course. Morieson has been the recipient of grants including the Australia Council Media Arts fund, Victoria Arts Projects fund, Victoria Arts Touring Fund and Cinemedia Digital Media Fund (Film Victoria ).
He has also had residencies including Australia Council Studio in Barcelona, Asialink residency in Echigo Tsumari Triennial, Japan and Queens College residency at Melbourne University. He was a studio artist at Gertrude Artist Spaces. Morieson has had held solo exhibitions at Gertrude St Artist spaces, IMA in Brisbane, RMIT in Melbourne, and participated in numerous group shows around Australia. He has also exhibited works in China, Switzerland, Germany, England and New Zealand. His work is held in collections including Artbank, Monash Gallery, Mercer Resources and the International Drawing Institute, as well as various private collections.
