Haley West - Northern Territory
Hayley’s practice relates to a lived awareness of death and memorial, working with sculpture, video, performance and installation.
Her research explores the realities of grief through personal experiences and artistic practice, accepting the inevitability of one’s own death and considering the impact on loved ones still living. Progressive discourse regarding death, including alternative funeral rites and ways of dying, is still in its infancy in Western societies. However, talking about death is increasingly becoming less taboo and art dealing with death can appeal to, and propel the cause to broader audiences.
