BOAA

News

Two years and counting until BOAA…OK that seems like a long time but we are already hitting the ground running with ….making BOAA happen.

There are a few things on the go right now, and if you want to know even more about BOAA, visit our website here.

Meetings.. Meeting… Meetings…
Lots of discussions with key partners about funding and support over the last two months and we now have support from the City of Ballarat, Regional Tourism and several key local companies. Our discussions continue with the State Government with great advice, and over the next few months more local targeted fund raising will begin to roll out.
There are many ways you can support making BOAA happen; in kind goods and services, cash donation and major foundation partnership support. No support is too small or in fact, too large! Everyone can support the arts!

Grants.. Grants.. Grants...
We have also been very busy with writing grants for a variety of organisations, government and not for profits. Fingers and toes crossed!

More exciting news, we are about to secure a lease on a premises in Ballarat CBD that will be used as BOAA HQ. Our offices, storage, showroom and workshop will be located there. Our front fence will allow for signage of our supporters logos and names; the location is prominent so this is a great bonus for those who choose to support us. More on BOAA HQ in the next BOAA news, we don’t want to jinx the deal until the lease is signed!

At BOAA we are doing things differently, the aim is to make BOAA Sustainable into the future creating a consistent crack team. The reality is that biennale arts events struggle between non event years to maintain staff, great people with all that on the ground knowledge end up leaving and the seasonal fundraising is left to one person to make it happen. By the time the money is raised your key staff have found other jobs (because they are brilliant). At BOAA we have developed BOAA industries which is the commercial arm of BOAA. It will offer a range of service, from event equipment hire, hospitality options and events, transport options, merchandising such as corporate gifts, souvenirs & artisan objects all made in Ballarat. We will also be offering a range of professional services such as graphic design, PR and marketing, art consultancy, art sales….among many other art related services.

Our vision is to cover all our staffing costs with BOAA industries, leaving all the fund raising efforts each year to go directly into artist projects and the event production.

And its not just words on paper…. the first project for BOAA industries is the pop up container bar BOAA Contina which will be situated in Alfred Deakin Place during the Archibald Prize Exhibition which is on at the Art Gallery of Ballarat during 13 Oct – 27 Nov 2016. The café / bar will be open 7 days and offering drinks, milkshakes, and a range of snacks and tasty treats. All profits from the Contina go directly to making BOAA happen in Ballarat in 2018 so that’s definitely worth a drink or two. Please come a visit us to show your support, make us your regular for 6 weeks.

Beyond this outing, Contina will be available for other events and pop up situations so keep us in mind if you want to help activate and provide additional hospitality options for your next event.

With so much going on it easy to forgot the core objective of BOAA, sourcing the best and most innovative artists from across Australia. Recently BOAA was described as a State of Origin battle with artists from every state and territory being represented and showcased in Ballarat. October/November will see the release of the National expression of interest, this will allow every artist in Australia to show us how fabulous they are. From this process I will visit many locations around Australia holding meetings with artists, then together developing projects and budgets to suit.

My journeys will be filmed with a series of web episodes being produced and shared, it will begreat opportunity to delve into the curatorial process which is often a mystery to many artists and perceived as all smoke and mirrors.

Stay tuned for more exciting news from the BOAA family...
